Dave and I are trying to keep track of where we've eaten, and where we'd like to eat in the city. I was thinking this weekend that it might be cool to post restaurants we've eaten at on our blog. This way, we'll remember we (1)want to go there again, or (2)don't want to go there again, and don't want to recommend anyone else ever go there. Plus, we'd love for you to comment if you've been to any of the places we write about!
For the first post in this new category, I will attempt to review Del Posto, Mario Batali's latest creation. We ate there on Friday night, with people from Dave's work. Del Posto is located in Chelsea, and seems hidden when you see the sign (see sign above). You would never know what a big restaurant lays inside.
We all had a great time--drank great wine and enjoyed delcious food. Since we were dining with a lot of people, we ordered those huge bottles of Chiante Classico that Dave used to have as his mantel-decoration before marrying me:) We each ordered a dish from the appetizers, First Course, Second Course and Dessert menu. It was a good thing too, because the portions were small--but very tasty. With all of those courses, we definitely left full, but if we had tried to do it on a budget and just order a pasta, for example, it wouldn't have been enough. I had delcious pumpkin pasta filled with cheesy deliciousness--it was SO good!! Dave really liked his duck with peppercorn rub--those were our favorites of the night. The one negative was that I'd have to say I wasn't impressed with the decor--it was very hotel-like, and lacked originality.
To sum up, here's how I'd rate it: (each out of ten)
Food 9
Wine 9
Decor 6
Service 8 (helpful, but a little smug--the busboys were awesome though--they walked me all the way to the bathroom to show me where it was!)
Price $$$$ (very expensive!!)
OVERALL SCORE: 32 (out of a possible 40)
Comments: Definitely not a budget deal, and the decor really hurts it a little bit, but the food and wine were great--which makes it a place I'd go back to again after just having cashed our paychecks!!
